Accommodation Update - September 2024

With autumn approaching, Britain’s hotel scene continues to welcome exciting new openings across the country. Whether it is a family getaway steeped in history, a stylish city break, or a serene countryside escape, there is accommodation to cater for every taste. From the grounds of a medieval castle to the tranquil beauty of the Cotswolds, here’s a round-up of the latest new openings and places to stay.

Recently opened…

The Pig in the Cotswolds, near Cirencester

The latest addition to The Pig’s renowned portfolio of boutique country hotels is nestled in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Barnsley, just four miles from Cirencester. The hotel occupies a 17th-century Grade II listed building, surrounded by original Arts and Crafts gardens created by renowned garden designer Rosemary Verey. True to The Pig’s signature style, each of the 18 individually designed rooms is full of character, featuring a blend of vintage furnishings and modern amenities. Expect to find rustic touches like exposed beams, reclaimed wood and plush bedding, all contributing to the laid-back luxury that The Pig is known for. The hotel also features a kitchen garden, a small spa and a restaurant serving home-grown and local food.

Warwick Castle Hotel, Warwick

Nestled within the heart of Warwick Castle’s expansive 64-acre grounds, the newly opened Warwick Castle Hotel transports guests back in time with more than 60 medieval-themed rooms. Each room features a king-size bed, children’s bunk beds with pull-out trundles, and decor that includes wall-mounted shields, coats of arms and tapestry-style wallpaper. The hotel restaurant provides buffet-style dining with a selection of traditional dishes and a barbeque menu. It represents the latest new addition to the accommodation offering at Warwick Castle, which also includes Woodland Lodges and glamping in the Knight’s Village, as well as the Ceasar’s Tower Suites, private chambers set in one of the castle’s 14th-century towers.

Ellen Kensington, London

A stylish new addition to London’s Kensington neighbourhood, Ellen Kensington occupies five interconnected Victorian townhouses with original architectural features including period bannisters and wrought iron gate rails. Formerly The Burns Hotel, this boutique property features 105 elegant rooms and suites, half of which overlook the historic Barkston Gardens. Guests can indulge in pan-Asian cuisine at the on-site restaurant, The Lacquer Room, complete with a private terrace and orangery, or relax with spa treatments in the wellness area (due to open soon).

voco Belfast, Belfast

Located in Belfast’s Gasworks district, voco Belfast is the latest offering from the voco brand, part of IHG Hotels and Resorts. The refurbished hotel features 120 contemporary rooms equipped with high-speed wi-fi and eco-friendly amenities. The on-site POMO restaurant and bar offer a fusion of local and international flavours, while the hotel’s event space, with six meeting rooms, caters to business travellers and event organisers. Situated near major attractions like the Titanic Quarter and St. George’s Market, voco Belfast provides a convenient base for exploring the city.

Saltmoore, Whitby
Opening October 2024

Situated a short drive from the historic city of York, and close to the coastal town of Whitby, Saltmoore is an elegant retreat located in the heart of North Yorkshire. Offering a blend of historic charm and modern luxury, the hotel will occupy a restored 19th-century manor house with original architectural features. Saltmoore will also include a second hotel building, the family friendly Beach House, with its own reception and bar. Both buildings will comprise a total of 72 individually designed rooms and suites, combining period details with luxurious furnishings in neutral tones. Placing an emphasis on sustainability, the hotel restaurant will serve seasonal dishes using locally sourced ingredients. Guests can also unwind at the hotel spa, The Sanctuary at Saltmoore, which will feature a variety of treatments, a sauna, and an indoor pool.

The Resident Edinburgh, Edinburgh
Opening October 2024

Resident Hotels is expanding into Scotland with the opening of The Resident Edinburgh in October. Located in the heart of Edinburgh, this redevelopment of Meldrum House on Drumsheugh Gardens will offer 164 rooms and suites. Each room will feature mini kitchens with modern appliances, including a Nespresso coffee machine, Molton Brown bathroom products, and 50-inch UHD TVs.
