Why should I target the German market?
- Germany is the UK’s third largest source market by visit volume and second most valuable by visitor spending, only topped by the US.
- German visitors set a new record with £1.8bn contributed to the UK’s visitor economy in 2023 (up 17% on 2019 value and driven by records in all but the first quarter of 2023).
- German visits had an average length of 6 nights with average spend per visit of £619 – this is £134 more than pre-pandemic! Visitors from Germany contributed a record of £842m to London’s visitor economy in 2023.
- Regional spread: the German market also offers excellent regional spread opportunities: In 2023, 35% of all German visitor nights in the UK were spent in London, 46% in England outside of the capital, 15% in Scotland and 4% in Wales.
German holiday market: UK holidays visits from Germany have virtually fully recovered in 2023 (just 3% shy of 2019 volume) and set a new record with an unprecedented 9.2m visitor nights spent in the UK. The German holiday market is now worth a record of more than £1bn in visitor spending all across the UK (19% more than pre-pandemic, driven by records in all but the first quarter of 2023). With an average spend per visit of £706, German holidaymakers spent £130 more in 2023 than in 2019.
