3.2. Minimum effort, maximum impact

How to get going fast and have the greatest effect? Identify early quick wins - tasks that require minimum effort but still deliver on impact.

Takeaways 3.2

In a nutshell

  • For speed, identify the path of least resistance.

  • Go for the quick wins first.

  • Use the momentum of those achievements to move onto more strategic initiatives.

Get going fast

A simple and straightforward way to establish the effort needed to get tasks done versus the potential impact is to use this minimum effort vs maximum impact grid.

In addition to identifying quick wins, using the grid will also highlight initiatives that really should be classed as basic housekeeping (low effort/low impact) but still need to be ticked off the list.

Once you have sorted these out, then you can start thinking more long-term and strategic (high impact/high effort) initiatives.

And if something is high effort/low impact, rethink or ditch it.
